 KARL"THE FLICK FANATIC" SIDES:

Like the name says, I am a movie fanatic. I love movies of all genres:                  Action,Comedy, Sci-fi, Horror and even a Chick-Flick (if it is made well). I see over  150 movies a year and if they would let me bring a pillow and microwave, I would live in the theater. I am a member of the St. Louis Film Critic's Association and have been reviewing films for various outlets for over 5 years. I am easy to spot I will be the guy with the movie projector on his head (I figure I'll bring my own in case the one at the theater breaks down). This website is going to give you the "Average Joe" movie review, not all of that artistic garbage, but basically is this movie worth my hard earned dollar! And if you disagree with something or want to add to a review or story shoot us an email at the address below. Enjoy the site and I look forward to seeing you at the movies!

Cate Marquis:  a St. Louis-based film, theater and visual arts critic. She is Director and co-founder of the St. Louis Film Critics professional film critics association. Marquis reviews films for various St. Louis publications, including the St. Louis Jewish Light, The Current and the Movie Marquee By Cate Marquis website (www.marqueebymarquis.com).

She is also a film historian whose focus is silent comedy. Marquis has given presentations on early film history to a variety of groups, including Elder Hostel, American Association of University Women, the St. Louis Wednesday Club. She has also made her own films, worked on a number of film productions, belongs to a number of film history societies, and has written articles on film history.
As the daughter of noted St. Louis artist Paul Marquis, twice president of the prestigious St. Louis Artists Guild, Cate Marquis grew up in art galleries, theaters and movie houses. She appreciates a broad range of films and genres but especially enjoys international films, classic and silent films, and believes in promoting appreciation of cinema excellence.

Marquis believes that film reviews should help the film fan decide if a film is worth their time and money. Her reviews evaluate a film based on its target audience and its own goals as a film. However, she feels that an entertainment-only film had darn well better be entertaining. Her tastes in films run the gamut from popular entertainment to art house. Her own film preferences often lean towards international films and art house since she has a taste for well-made, original films, does not mind challenging material and is not afraid of subtitles. She values outstanding cinematography. Innovative, effective, stylish films are among her favorites. She loves Coen brothers movies and the cinematography of Roger Deakins, among others.

RAVEN: I have been a movie junkie since I first learned how to sneak in and see 3 or 4 movies in one day at the theatre!  Seriously, I have been a movie fan as long as I can remember…and I love horror movies the best!  I think that goes back to me reading “Carrie” way back in my youth and then getting to see it brought to all its bloody gore on screen…and it was just like I imagined it!  I have always had quite the imagination…so seeing a good movie is like stepping outside of my reality and into the mind and fantasy of someone else.  I, like Karl, am a member of the STL Critic’s Association, and that gives me great honor.  I get to do something I totally love and then share it with tons of folks…and unlike a lot of critics out there, I try to just enjoy each film exactly the way the creator made it, be it funny or sad, serious or horror.  I look forward to helping you all choose the good from the bad, but most importantly; I hope to see you all at the movies!

Andy:
It wasn't until the summer of 1997 that I became a Flick Fanatic, I was 8 years old. I saw what I believed to be the greatest film of all time. No, it wasn't L.A. Confidential, or Good Will Hunting, or even Titanic, it was something even greater.

Batman & Robin made me realize how amazing movies were and how they can take you away to a different world; a world where anything is possible, and bat-nipples are plentiful.

Since that day my taste in movies has matured a bit, but I must thank Mr. Schumacher for his work, even if it is, in retrospect, absolutely terrible, because if it weren't for Arnold Schwarzenegger telling me to kick some ice, I would have never seen the magic of movies and never became a Flick Fanatic.

Today I'm a student at Webster University, and I'm a Film Studies major. Alexis and I met in High School and have been arguing about movies ever since. We will be duking it out every week about movies we have seen lately for your enjoyment, I have a feeling this is going to lead to some nights on the couch for me.

ALEXIS: I have to start off by giving credit to my wonderful Aunt Beck. When I was four, we started having weekend sleepovers at her house. She would make home-made popcorn, buy candy and soda, and we would stay up all night watching all sorts of movies, which drove my mom crazy. I've grown up with a passion for movies, and after meeting Andy, I became a true Flick Fanatic. We met in Freshman year of High School, our first date was the movie The Incredibles. Andy didn't buy my ticket, and he ate all the popcorn I bought. Not the best first date, but luckily for him, things improved. I'm now a student at Webster University, and I take classes in Film Studies. Andy and I have started watching all sorts of different movies, and over the years, we have both acquired different tastes for films. We agree on a lot, but a couple movies have resulted in big fights and not speaking to each other (Revolutionary Road led to almost a week of fighting over which character was at fault). But even with these differences in taste, I couldn't be happier with Andy, however, if I have to watch The Big Lebowski one more time, I may start accepting applications for a new boyfriend.

LAUREN (LAUREN@THEFLICKFANATIC.COM)

Hey, this is Lauren and I love hanging out with friends, cooking, and art. Things that make me happy...candy, new clothes and any animated movie! Things that make me sad...mean people, mozzarella cheese and 3D glasses, ugh! I LOVE going to the movies, it's just so much FUN...and with candy & friends too!

Being fanatical about movies and writing reviews for TheFlickFanatic is awesome! I'm 13 years old, so I love telling people what I think and I love hearing what kids think! When a movie opens, just check the site and get the scoop before you take your piggy bank to the box office! You can use my reviews when you're deciding how to spend some of your family time...at the theater, or snuggled on the couch with a DVD. You can click on 'Karl's Swag Bag' and enter to win passes to see a flick with us and get to be all VIP with me!

So, if Karl's got your average Joe take in "Flickanalysis" then I've got your average Joe Junior take in "Lauren's Movie Lounge"...just what real people think! I'll tell you what's
amazing and what stinks and I'll always try to give you a heads up on age appropriateness. If you want to share any thoughts or send me kid movie trivia questions, just email me at lauren@theflickfanatic.com

Some of my absolute faves---Disney's Peter Pan, The Proposal, Twilight, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Napoleon Dynamite, Home Alone, The Sandlot, Fever Pitch, Labyrinth, and anything with Sandra Bullock or Drew Barrymore!
